Christian Discovery Presentations

This term in Christian Discovery 6SL have been studying Psalms. As part of this unit students chose one Psalm to focus on, creating a song to the tune of a popular song which encapsulated the meaning of their chosen Psalm and at least one verse directly from the Psalm.

We had our presentations today and I was very impressed with the quality and effort shown by several different groups - we definitely have some future singer / song writer / worship leaders in our midst!!

Sydney Thunder Visit!

Today we had a visit from the Sydney Thunder Bus!

Year 6 had a great time participating in a quiz to win prizes! We had the choice of a bag, wig or wristband but the wig was by far the most popular!

We also had a chance to clock our throwing speed!

Congratulations to Isaac and Tiarhn who were not only the fastest boy and girl in 6SL, but also stage 2 and 3!! They even beat the teachers :)

We're looking forward to our Cricket Gala Day next week even more now!

Operation Christmas Child & Farewell Micah party!

This afternoon 6SL enjoyed our second party of the week! We were rewarded as our two classes each brought in more boxes for Operation Christmas Child than any other class in middle school. Thanks to the generosity of our class and their families 26 children will now get a Christmas gift they wouldn't otherwise have received. This is such a wonderful opportunity to spread the love of Christ.

Today was also Micah's last day with us before his family moves to America! He will be missed by all in our class and we hope he can comment on the blog to let us know how he is going over there! Good luck Micah!

Spring Glo Dance

Tonight year 6 had the pleasure of attending the first Middle School Dance!

We had an awesome time dancing, eating and socialising with friends.

As well as current music and the option of playing dance star on the wii, we also enjoyed dancing to classics like the nutbush, Macarena and chicken dance! Check out some of our moves:

What was your favourite part about the Spring Glow Dance?

Oz tag round robin

To culminate the Oz tag clinic run by Mr Wadds PASS class, stage 3 are participating in a round robin Oz tag competition over this week and next. This is a great way to practice and consolidate the skills that were taught  throughout last term.

Which team do you think will win?

High catch champions

This term in PE we are participating in a cricket workshop run by cricket NSW. 6SL loved our first week and are looking forward to the weeks to come.

Congratulations to Lachlan, Nimesh and Joel who were our 'High Catch Champions' on the day!!

Change to English Homework Weeks 1 - 5 of Term 4

Please note that all English homework will be on the blog for the beginning half of Term 4.

Completion of these short tasks is essential to weekly class activities and our English Assessment in Weeks 5 and 6. Borrowing from the Primary Branch will take place on a Monday morning, allowing for the brief summary to be written before Thursday of that week. Students may also borrow from The Hub during recess, lunch and before school, as well as from their local library in needed.

The weekly task can be viewed on the relevant page (e.g Homework Week 1 + 2) as per our Mathematics homework for the previous three terms.

Please see Mr Sales or I ASAP if you  foresee this being a problem so that we can make arrangements to ensure your child is prepared.

Oztag with Mr. Wadds Year 10 PASS class

Over the last three weeks Stage 3 have had the pleasure of participating in a coaching clinic run by Year 10 students from Mr. Wadds PASS class. They had the task of planning and implementing 3 coaching sessions that demonstrated an understanding of the structure of a quality lesson and developed skills required to play Oztag. We had great fun and learned a lot from them!

Here are some of the activities we liked the best, things we learned and some advice we had for the year 10 students in future. Special thanks to our guest bloggers from 5/6C and 5E for contributing to this post.

I loved playing Oz Tag in PE  because the leaders help lots, like they don’t just tell you how to pass a ball they show you, and if they still don’t  get it they’ll help you until you do get it. I learnt how to run with a ball and catch a ball, and then at the end we put it all together. I liked at the end they gave us lollipops and tips one of the tips was wherever you want the ball to go it will go. I liked how we stretched at the end I think they should that all the time.
By Chloe R, 5/6C

My favourite  activity was Oztag  bull rush because you have two lives instead of one. Also because if you get tagged you get to run around instead of being stuck in one spot.
I learnt how to pass and that if you spin when running with the ball you have a better chance of not getting tagged. I also learnt that you must throw the ball behind you when passing.
My teacher is good at passing and dogging taggers.
They could show more demonstrations, also less games and more focus time.
From Connor 5/6C

I have learnt to do longer passes and to chuck the dummy and pass.
My favourite activity was where there were 2 attackers and 3 defenders and you had to get to the other end to score a try.
My coaches were so funny and kind if they saw you not having a good day they would cheer you up.
Anthony S, 5E

For the past three weeks i've been learning oztag with my year ten coaches Josh and Bolten this is a recount of what i've experienced….
Week One:
In week one i was put in Josh and Boltons group, there we got started instantly by passing a football to practice catching skills and playing a few rounds of bullrush to help us with tagging, We then played a quick mini Oztag game to finish the day.
What I liked:
Everyone got into it straight away and enjoyed themselves.
What I disliked:
I didn't fully understand the  rules of oztag and was slightly confused I think that everyone would have enjoyed themselves even more if we had some idea of the game.
Week Two:
In Week two we started with a few games of bullrush to improve our running and tagging skills we then went on to play a team V team mini game of defending and attacking which was fun and a great way to improve skills.
What I liked: Lots of fun team games
What I disliked: Some cheating and bad sportsmanship
By Anthony G, 6L

In P.E with oztag i learnt how to avoid being tagged, how to pass the ball and how to defend. When you pass the ball you have to make sure there is someone is  behind you.
Daniel L, 6L

My Favourite Part?
My favourite part was when we played a game of oz tag and I scored try.
What I learnt?
I learnt that you have to put the ball down to score a try and you can’t slide on the grass to score.
Tips?
They said to move my hips more so it gets harder for my opponents to get my tags.
By Jaimee 5/6C

I liked the way the year tens ran Oz tag by putting people into partners then putting them into a big group so that you can’t go with your friends.
What the year tens can work on like passing the ball a bit more and how to kick a ball below the shoulders and what a marker is.
What I learnt is that is that you have to pass the ball three times.
By Brandon 5/6C

During PE we were taken by year 10 students to teach us how to play oztag.
What Happened During The Three Weeks?
We played activities, my favourite was pass the ball 10 times.
That Was Fun Because?
You had to pass the ball to your team 10 times without dropping it while the other team tried to knock out of the air.
What Were Your Leaders Like?
We had three leaders Will and two girls. Will was funny and always kept us going.
By Jordan 6S

What was your favourite activity? What did you learn?
